John, Chapter 19
Pilate has Yeshua scourged and, though he finds no fault in Him, hands Him over to be crucified at Gulgolta under the title King of the Jews. Yeshua entrusts His mother to the disciple He loved and dies, His side is pierced, and Yosef of Ramatayim and Nicodemus bury Him in a new tomb.
19:1Then Pilate therefore took Yeshua (Jesus), and scourged Him.
19:2And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe,
19:3And said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and they struck Him with their hands.
19:4Pilate therefore went forth again, and says unto them, “Behold, I bring Him forth to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.”
19:5Then came Yeshua forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate says unto them, “Behold the man!”
19:6When the chief priests therefore and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him.” Pilate says unto them, “Take you Him, and crucify Him: for I find no fault in Him.”
19:7The Jews answered him, “We have a Torah, and by our Torah He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.”
19:8When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
19:9And went again into the judgment hall, and says unto Yeshua, “Whence are You?” But Yeshua gave him no answer.
19:10Then says Pilate unto Him, “Speak You not unto me? know You not that I have power to crucify You, and have power to release You?”
λέγει οὖν αὐτῷ ὁ Πιλάτος, Ἐμοὶ οὐ λαλεῖς; οὐκ οἶδας ὅτι ἐξουσίαν ἔχω σταυρῶσαί σε, καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἔχω ἀπολῦσαι σε;
19:11Yeshua answered, “You could have no power at all against Me, except it were given you from above: therefore he that delivered Me unto you has the greater sin.”
19:12And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release Him: but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this man go, you are not Caesar’s friend: whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
19:13When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Yeshua forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbata (Gabbatha).
19:14And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he says unto the Jews, “Behold your King!”
19:15But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him.” Pilate says unto them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
19:16Then delivered he Him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Yeshua, and led Him away.
19:17And He bearing His cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Gulgolta (Golgotha):
19:18Where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, on either side one, and Yeshua in the midst.
19:19And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, YESHUA OF NATZRAT (NAZARETH) THE KING OF THE JEWS.
19:20This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Yeshua was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
19:21Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, “Write not, ‘The King of the Jews;’ but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’”
19:22Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.”
19:23Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Yeshua, took His garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also His coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
19:24They said therefore among themselves, “Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be:” that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, “They parted My raiment among them, and for My vesture they did cast lots.” These things therefore the soldiers did.
19:25Now there stood by the cross of Yeshua His mother, and His mother’s sister, Miryam (Mary) the wife of Cleophas, and Miryam of Magdala (Mary Magdalene).
19:26When Yeshua therefore saw His mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, He says unto His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
19:27Then says He to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
19:28After this, Yeshua knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, says, “I thirst.”
19:29Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
19:30When Yeshua therefore had received the vinegar, He said, “It is finished:” and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.
19:31The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
19:32Then came the soldiers, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with Him.
19:33But when they came to Yeshua, and saw that He was dead already, they broke not His legs:
19:34But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
19:35And he that saw it bore record, and his record is true: and he knows that he says true, that you might believe.
19:36For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, “A bone of Him shall not be broken.”
19:37And again another scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”
19:38And after this Yosef (Joseph) of Ramatayim (Arimathaea), being a disciple of Yeshua, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Yeshua: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Yeshua.
19:39And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Yeshua by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pound weight.
19:40Then took they the body of Yeshua, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
19:41Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
19:42There laid they Yeshua therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
