Acts, Chapter 3

At the Beautiful gate of the temple Peter and Yoḥanan heal a man lame from birth in the name of Yeshua. When the people gather in Shlomo’s porch, Peter tells them that the God of their fathers has glorified Yeshua, whom they denied, and calls them to repent.

A lame man is healed

3:1Now Peter and Yoḥanan (John) went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

3:2And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3:3Who seeing Peter and Yoḥanan about to go into the temple asked an alms.

3:4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with Yoḥanan, said, “Look on us.”

3:5And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

3:6Then Peter said, “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I you: In the name of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah of Natzrat (Nazareth) rise up and walk.”

3:7And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

3:8And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

3:9And all the people saw him walking and praising God:

3:10And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

Peter speaks in Shlomo’s porch

3:11And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and Yoḥanan, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Shlomo’s (Solomon’s), greatly wondering.

3:12And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? or why do you look so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?

ἰδὼν δὲ Πέτρος ἀπεκρίνατο πρὸς τὸν λαόν, Ἄνδρες Ἰσραηλῖται, τί θαυμάζετε ἐπὶ τούτῳ, ἢ ἡμῖν τί ἀτενίζετε, ὡς ἰδίᾳ δυνάμει ἢ εὐσεβείᾳ πεποιηκόσι τοῦ περιπατεῖν αὐτόν;

3:13The God of Avraham (Abraham), and of Yitzḥak (Isaac), and of Ya’akov (Jacob), the God of our fathers, has glorified His Son Yeshua; whom you delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go.

3:14But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;

3:15And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

3:16And His name through faith in His name has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yea, the faith which is by Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

3:17And now, brethren, I know that through ignorance you did it, as did also your rulers.

3:18But those things, which God before had showed by the mouth of all His prophets, that Messiah should suffer, He has so fulfilled.

A call to repent

3:19Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

3:20And He shall send Yeshua the Messiah, which before was preached unto you:

3:21Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

3:22For Moshe (Moses) truly said unto the fathers, ‘A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall you hear in all things whatever he shall say unto you.

Tenakh. Quotes Deuteronomy 18:15.

3:23And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.’

3:24Yea, and all the prophets from Shmuel (Samuel) and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.

3:25You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Avraham, ‘And in your seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.’

Tenakh. Quotes Genesis 22:18.

3:26Unto you first God, having raised up His Son Yeshua, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”

Sources & method

English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
