Text (469) 608-9944Leviticus, Chapter 23
The feasts of Hashem: the sabbath, Pesaḥ and the feast of unleavened bread, the wave sheaf, the fifty days counted to the new meal offering, the blowing of the shofar in the seventh month, the day of atonement, and the feast of Sukkot with its booths.
23:1And Hashem spoke unto Moshe (Moses), saying,
אוַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃
23:2“Speak unto the children of Yisrael (Israel), and say unto them, ‘Concerning the feasts of Hashem, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.
בדַּבֵּ֞ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם מוֹעֲדֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־תִּקְרְא֥וּ אֹתָ֖ם מִקְרָאֵ֣י קֹ֑דֶשׁ אֵ֥לֶּה הֵ֖ם מוֹעֲדָֽי׃
23:3Six days shall work be done; but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work in it; it is the sabbath of Hashem in all your dwellings.
23:4These are the feasts of Hashem, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons.
דאֵ֚לֶּה מוֹעֲדֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה מִקְרָאֵ֖י קֹ֑דֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר־תִּקְרְא֥וּ אֹתָ֖ם בְּמוֹעֲדָֽם׃
23:5In the fourteenth day of the first month at evening is Hashem’s Pesaḥ (Passover).

23:6And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto Hashem; seven days you must eat unleavened bread.

23:9And Hashem spoke unto Moshe, saying,
טוַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃
23:10“Speak unto the children of Yisrael, and say unto them, ‘When you have come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest;

23:17You shall bring out of your dwellings two wave loaves of two tenth parts; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto Hashem.

- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Leviticus they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 5 and 6; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
