Jubilees, Chapter 48
The angel reminds Moshe how he saved him from Mastema on the way back to Mitzrayim, how Hashem struck Mitzrayim with ten judgments for Yisrael’s sake, and how He brought Yisrael through the sea and cast the pursuing army into it.
48:1And in the sixth year of the third week of the forty-ninth jubilee you departed and dwelt in the land of Midyan (Midian), five weeks and one year. And you returned into Mitzrayim (Egypt) in the second week in the second year in the fiftieth jubilee.

48:5And Hashem executed a great vengeance on them for the sake of Yisrael (Israel), and smote them through the plagues of blood and frogs, lice and dog-flies, and malignant boils breaking forth in blains; and their cattle by death; and by hailstones, thereby He destroyed everything that grew for them; and by locusts which devoured the residue which had been left by the hail, and by darkness; and by the death of the firstborn of men and animals, and on all their idols Hashem took vengeance and burned them with fire.

He took vengeance on a million of them, and one thousand strong and energetic men were destroyed on account of one suckling of the children of your people which they had thrown into the river.

- English translation
- R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
- Spanish translation
- Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
- Ge’ez text
- Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
