Rivkah tells Yaakov to honor his father and brother and says she will die this year; she asks Yitzḥak to make Esav swear not to harm Yaakov, then makes both her sons promise to love each other, and she dies and is buried near Sarah.

Rivkah speaks with Yaakov

35:1And in the first year of the first week of the forty-fifth jubilee Rivkah (Rebekah) called Yaakov (Jacob), her son, and commanded him regarding his father and regarding his brother, that he should honor them all the days of his life.

And yet I will tell you the truth, my son: I shall die this year, and I shall not survive this year in my life; for I have seen in a dream the day of my death, that I should not live beyond a hundred and fifty-five years; and behold, I have completed all the days of my life which I am to live.”

Rivkah’s request to Yitzḥak

35:9And she went in to Yitzḥak (Isaac) and said unto him, “One petition I make unto you: make Esav (Esau) swear that he will not injure Yaakov, nor pursue him with enmity; for you know Esav’s thoughts, that they are perverse from his youth, and there is no goodness in him; for he desires after your death to kill him.

Sources & method

English translation
R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
Spanish translation
Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
Ge’ez text
Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
