Jubilees, Chapter 27

መጽሐፈ ኩፋሌ ፳፯

Rivkah learns that Esav means to kill Yaakov, and Yitzḥak sends Yaakov to Mesopotamia to take a wife from Lavan’s daughters; Yitzḥak comforts the weeping Rivkah, and at Beit-El Yaakov dreams of a ladder reaching to heaven and vows a vow to Hashem.

Rivkah sends Yaakov away

27:1And the words of Esav (Esau), her elder son, were told to Rivkah (Rebekah) in a dream, and Rivkah sent and called Yaakov (Jacob) her younger son,

I will not go; when he sends me, then only will I go.”

The ladder at Beit-El

27:19And Yaakov went from the Well of the Oath to go to Ḥaran in the first year of the second week in the forty-fourth jubilee, and he came to Luz on the mountains, that is, Beit-El (Bethel), on the new moon of the first month of this week, and he came to the place at evening and turned from the way to the west of the road that night, and he slept there; for the sun had set.

27:19Y Yaakov salió del Pozo del Juramento para ir a Jarán en el primer año de la segunda semana del jubileo cuarenta y cuatro, y llegó a Luz en los montes, que es Beit-El (Bet-el), en la luna nueva del primer mes de esta semana, y llegó al lugar al anochecer, y se apartó del camino hacia el occidente del camino aquella noche, y durmió allí; porque el sol se había puesto.

Sources & method

English translation
R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
Spanish translation
Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
Ge’ez text
Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
