Mark, Chapter 16

When the sabbath is past, the women come to the sepulchre and find a young man who tells them Yeshua is risen. Yeshua appears to Miryam of Magdala, to two disciples, and to the eleven, sends them to preach the gospel to every creature, and is received up into heaven.

16:1And when the sabbath was past, Miryam of Magdala (Mary Magdalene), and Miryam (Mary) the mother of Ya’akov (James), and Shlomit (Salome), had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint Him.

16:2And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

16:3And they said among themselves, “Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?”

καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς ἑαυτάς, Τίς ἀποκυλίσει ἡμῖν τὸν λίθον ἐκ τῆς θύρας τοῦ μνημείου;

16:4And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

16:5And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

16:6And he says unto them, “Be not affrighted: You seek Yeshua (Jesus) of Natzrat (Nazareth), which was crucified: He is risen; He is not here: behold the place where they laid Him.

16:7But go your way, tell His disciples and Peter that He goes before you into Galil (Galilee): there shall you see Him, as He said unto you.”

16:8And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

Yeshua appears after He is risen

16:9Now when Yeshua was risen early the first day of the week, He appeared first to Miryam of Magdala, out of whom He had cast seven demons.

16:10And she went and told them that had been with Him, as they mourned and wept.

16:11And they, when they had heard that He was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

16:12After that He appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.

16:13And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

16:14Afterward He appeared unto the eleven as they sat at table, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen Him after He was risen.

Sent into all the world

16:15And He said unto them, “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16:16He that believes and is immersed shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.

16:17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues;

יז”למאמינים בשמי אתן סמכות לגרש שדים; הם ידברו בלשונות חדשות;

16:18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

Received up into heaven

16:19So then after the Master had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

16:20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Master working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Sources & method

English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
