Hebrews, Chapter 13

The letter closes with exhortations to brotherly love, hospitality, purity and contentment, for Yeshua the Messiah is the same yesterday, today and for ever. The readers are urged to go forth to Him without the camp, to offer the sacrifice of praise, to obey their leaders and to pray, and the letter ends with a blessing and greetings.

13:1Let brotherly love continue.

13:2Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

13:3Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

13:4Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

13:5Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for He has said, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”

Tenakh. Quotes Deuteronomy 31:6; Joshua 1:5.

13:6So that we may boldly say, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Tenakh. Quotes Psalm 118:6.
Remember those who rule over you

13:7Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conduct.

13:8Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.

13:9Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with foods, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Without the camp

13:10We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

13:11For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

13:12Wherefore Yeshua also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered without the gate.

13:13Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach.

13:14For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

13:15By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.

13:16But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

13:17Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Prayer and blessing

13:18Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

13:19But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

13:20Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Master Yeshua, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

13:21Make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Yeshua the Messiah; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Final greetings

13:22And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.

13:23Know you that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

13:24Greet all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy greet you.

13:25Grace be with you all. Amen.

Sources & method

English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
