2 Thessalonians, Chapter 2
Paul warns the Thessalonians not to be shaken by claims that the day of Messiah is at hand, for first the falling away must come and the man of sin be revealed, whom the Master will destroy at His coming. He thanks God for choosing them and urges them to stand fast and hold the traditions they were taught.
2:1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Master Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, and by our gathering together unto Him,
Ἐρωτῶμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς, ἀδελφοί, ὑπὲρ τῆς παρουσίας τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, καὶ ἡμῶν ἐπισυναγωγῆς ἐπ’ αὐτόν,
אבנוגע לבואו של ישוע המשיח אדוננו ופגישתנו איתו, אני מבקש מכם, אחים יקרים, אנא,
2:2That you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Messiah is at hand.
2:3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2:4Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
2:5Remember you not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
οὐ μνημονεύετε ὅτι ἔτι ὢν πρὸς ὑμᾶς, ταῦτα ἔλεγον ὑμῖν;
ההאם אינכם זוכרים שסיפרתי לכם כל זאת כשהייתי אצלכם?
2:6And now you know what withholds that he might be revealed in his time.
καὶ νῦν τὸ κατέχον οἴδατε, εἰς τὸ ἀποκαλυφθῆναι αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ἑαυτοῦ καιρῷ.
ועכשיו אתם יודעים מה מונע בעדו מלהופיע לפני הזמן המתאים.
2:7For the mystery of iniquity does already work: only he who now hinders will hinder, until he be taken out of the way.
τὸ γὰρ μυστήριον ἤδη ἐνεργεῖται τῆς ἀνομίας· μόνον ὁ κατέχων ἄρτι, ἕως ἐκ μέσου γένηται,
זמעלליו הרעים כבר משתוללים בעולם, אך הוא עצמו יוכל להופיע רק כשיוסר המעצור מדרכו.
2:8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Master shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming:
καὶ τότε ἀποκαλυφθήσεται ὁ ἄνομος, ὃν ὁ Κύριος ἀναλώσει τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ, καὶ καταργήσει τῇ ἐπιφανείᾳ τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦ·
חואז יתגלה בן־האבדון הרשע, אשר האדון ישוע ישתק בהבל־פיו וישמיד אותו כליל בזוהר כבודו.
2:9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
οὗ ἐστιν ἡ παρουσία κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ ἐν πάσῃ δυνάμει καὶ σημείοις καὶ τέρασι ψεύδους,
טהרשע הזה יבוא בשליחות השטן ובכוחו, וידהים את כולם באותות־שקר ואחיזת־עיניים.
2:10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
καὶ ἐν πάσῃ ἀπάτῃ τῆς ἀδικίας ἐν τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις, ἀνθ’ ὧν τὴν ἀγάπην τῆς ἀληθείας οὐκ ἐδέξαντο εἰς τὸ σωθῆναι αὐτούς.
יהוא יצליח להטעות את האנשים שנועדו לגיהינום, בגלל סירובם לאהוב את האמת שבכוחה להושיעם.
2:11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
καὶ διὰ τοῦτο πέμψει αὐτοῖς ὁ Θεὸς ἐνέργειαν πλάνης, εἰς τὸ πιστεῦσαι αὐτοὺς τῷ ψεύδει·
יאעל כן יניח להם אלוהים להאמין בכל השקרים האלה,
2:12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
ἵνα κριθῶσι πάντες οἱ μὴ πιστεύσαντες τῇ ἀληθείᾳ, ἀλλ’ εὐδοκήσαντες ἐν τῇ ἀδικίᾳ.
יבכדי שיוכל לשפטם על אשר האמינו בשקרים, עשו בכוונה את הרע וסרבו להאמין באמת.
2:13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Master, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
2:14Whereunto He called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Master Yeshua the Messiah.
εἰς ὃ ἐκάλεσεν ὑμᾶς διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου ἡμῶν, εἰς περιποίησιν δόξης τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.
ידהוא אף הזמינכם לקחת חלק בכבודו של אדוננו ישוע המשיח, באמצעות הבשורה שבישרנו לכם.
2:15Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
ἄρα οὖν, ἀδελφοί, στήκετε, καὶ κρατεῖτε τὰς παραδόσεις ἃς ἐδιδάχθητε, εἴτε διὰ λόγου, εἴτε δι’ ἐπιστολῆς ἡμῶν.
טועל כן, אחים יקרים, התמידו באמונתכם, ואל תרפו מכל מה שלימדנו אתכם בכתב ובעל־פה.
2:16Now our Master Yeshua the Messiah Himself, and God, even our Father, which has loved us, and has given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
2:17Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
παρακαλέσαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας, καὶ στηρίξαι ὑμᾶς ἐν παντὶ λόγῳ καὶ ἔργῳ ἀγαθῷ.
יזינחם את לבכם ויעזור לכם בכל דבר טוב שתאמרו או תעשו.

Sources & method
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”

Changes: shown verse by verse beside the English and Greek, without its section headings and footnotes; where it joins verses, the later verse points to the joined one; 3 John 15 is shown with verse 14. Our arrangement of this Hebrew text is shared under the same licence. Where the Greek has Kyrios for God, this translation writes ה׳ (Hashem), not the sacred name.
