2 Corinthians, Chapter 13

Paul warns that on his third coming he will not spare those who have sinned, and calls the Corinthians to examine themselves whether they are in the faith. He closes with a call to be perfect and of one mind, greetings, and a blessing of grace, love and fellowship.

Paul’s final warning

13:1This is the third time I am coming to you. “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”

Tenakh. Quotes Deuteronomy 19:15.

13:2I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:

13:3Since you seek a proof of Messiah speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.

13:4For though He was crucified through weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

Examine yourselves

13:5Examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know you not your own selves, how that Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah is in you, except you be reprobates?

13:6But I trust that you shall know that we are not reprobates.

13:7Now I pray to God that you do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that you should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

13:8For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.

13:9For we are glad, when we are weak, and you are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.

13:10Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Master has given me to edification, and not to destruction.

Final greetings

13:11Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

13:12Greet one another with a holy kiss.

13:13All the saints greet you.

13:14The grace of the Master Yeshua the Messiah, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.

Sources & method

English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
