1 Corinthians, Chapter 3
Paul tells the Corinthians that their envying and divisions over Paul and Apollos show they are still carnal. He describes himself and Apollos as fellow labourers with God, Yeshua the Messiah as the one foundation tested by fire, and the believers as the temple of God.
3:1And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Messiah.
3:2I have fed you with milk, and not with food: for hitherto you were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able.
3:3For you are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are you not carnal, and walk as men?
ἔτι γὰρ σαρκικοί ἐστε· ὅπου γὰρ ἐν ὑμῖν ζῆλος καὶ ἔρις καὶ διχοστασίαι, οὐχὶ σαρκικοί ἐστε, καὶ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον περιπατεῖτε;
3:4For while one says, “I am of Paul”; and another, “I am of Apollos”; are you not carnal?
ὅταν γὰρ λέγῃ τις, Ἐγὼ μέν εἰμι Παύλου, ἕτερος δέ, Ἐγὼ Ἀπολλῶ, οὐχὶ σαρκικοί ἐστε;
3:5Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Master gave to every man?
3:6I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
3:7So then neither is he that plants any thing, neither he that waters; but God that gives the increase.
3:8Now he that plants and he that waters are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
3:9For we are labourers together with God: you are God’s husbandry, you are God’s building.
3:10According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds thereon. But let every man take heed how he builds thereupon.
3:11For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah.
3:12Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
3:13Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
3:14If any man’s work abide which he has built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
3:15If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
3:16Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι ναὸς Θεοῦ ἐστε, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα τοῦ Θεοῦ οἰκεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν;
3:17If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
3:18Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
3:19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He takes the wise in their own craftiness.”
3:20And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.”
3:21Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
3:22Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Kefa (Cephas), or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
3:23And you are Messiah’s; and Messiah is God’s.

Sources & method
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
