Text (469) 608-9944Psalm 94
A plea to Hashem, God of vengeance, against the wicked who afflict His people and slay the widow, with trust that He will not forsake His people and will cut the wicked off.
94:1O Hashem God, to whom vengeance belongs; O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show Yourself.
94:2Lift up Yourself, You judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
94:3Hashem, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
94:4How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
94:5They break in pieces Your people, O Hashem, and afflict Your heritage.
94:6They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
94:7Yet they say, “Yah shall not see, neither shall the God of Ya’akov (Jacob) regard it.”
94:8Understand, you brutish among the people: and you fools, when will you be wise?
94:9He that planted the ear, shall He not hear? He that formed the eye, shall He not see?
94:10He that chastises the heathen, shall not He correct? He that teaches man knowledge, shall not He know?
94:11Hashem knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
94:12Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O Yah, and teach him out of Your Torah;
94:13That You may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be dug for the wicked.
94:14For Hashem will not cast off His people, neither will He forsake His inheritance.
94:15But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
94:16Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
94:17Unless Hashem had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
94:18When I said, “My foot slips”; Your mercy, O Hashem, held me up.
94:19In the multitude of my thoughts within me Your comforts delight my soul.
94:20Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You, which frames mischief by a law?
94:21They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
94:22But Hashem is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
94:23And He shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, Hashem our God shall cut them off.

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. The Divine Name is printed as it appears in the codex.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Tziyon (Zion)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem,” the short form יָהּ is “Yah,” and הַלְלוּ־יָהּ is “Hallelujah”; “God” (Elohim) and “Lord” (Adonai) are unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In the Hebrew a psalm’s heading (“A Psalm of David…”) is part of the text and is counted as verse 1, or verses 1–2, so in psalms with a heading the verse numbers are often one or two higher than in English Bibles. Where that happens, a note under the summary says so.
