Jubilees, Chapter 6
Noaḥ leaves the ark and makes atonement for the earth, and God makes a covenant with him, forbidding the eating of blood and setting His bow in the cloud; Moshe is told to renew this covenant with Yisrael, to keep the feast of Shavuot, to honor the four days of remembrance, and to keep a year of 364 days.
6:1And on the new moon of the third month he went forth from the ark, and built an altar on that mountain.

6:33But if they do neglect and do not observe them according to His commandment, then they will disturb all their seasons, and the years will be dislodged from this order, and they will neglect their ordinances.

6:34And all the children of Yisrael will forget and will not find the path of the years, and will forget the new moons, and seasons, and Shabbatot, and they will go wrong as to all the order of the years.

6:35For I know, and from henceforth will I declare it unto you, and it is not of my own devising; for the book lies written before me, and on the heavenly tablets the division of days is ordained, lest they forget the feasts of the covenant and walk according to the feasts of the nations after their error and after their ignorance.

6:36For there will be those who will assuredly make observations of the moon—how it disturbs the seasons and comes in from year to year ten days too soon.

6:37For this reason the years will come upon them when they will disturb the order, and make an abominable day the day of testimony, and an unclean day a feast day, and they will confound all the days, the holy with the unclean, and the unclean day with the holy; for they will go wrong as to the months and Shabbatot and feasts and jubilees.

6:38For this reason I command and testify to you that you may testify to them; for after your death your children will disturb them, so that they will not make the year three hundred and sixty-four days only, and for this reason they will go wrong as to the new moons and seasons and Shabbatot and festivals, and they will eat all kinds of blood with all kinds of flesh.

Sources & method
- English translation
- R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
- Spanish translation
- Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
- Ge’ez text
- Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
- Quiz
- Written by Benei Avraham for middle-school readers (ages 11–14). Each quiz starts with easier questions and gets harder. Every answer is in the chapter on this page. Answers and scores are kept only in this browser (local storage) and can be cleared with Start over.
