Jubilees, Chapter 23
Avraham dies with Yaakov beside him and is buried by Yitzḥak and Yishma’el; the angel then tells of later generations whose lives grow short because of their sin, of strife and of enemies from the nations, until the children begin to study the laws and return to righteousness, and Hashem heals His servants.
23:1And he placed two fingers of Yaakov (Jacob) on his eyes, and he blessed the God of gods, and he covered his face and stretched out his feet and slept the sleep of eternity, and was gathered to his fathers.

23:30And at that time Hashem will heal His servants, and they shall rise up and see great peace, and drive out their adversaries. And the righteous shall see and be thankful, and rejoice with joy forever and ever, and shall see all their judgments and all their curses on their enemies.

23:31And their bones shall rest in the earth, and their spirits shall have much joy, and they shall know that it is Hashem who executes judgment, and shows mercy to hundreds and thousands and to all that love Him.

23:32And you, Moshe (Moses), write down these words; for thus are they written, and they record them on the heavenly tablets for a testimony for the generations forever.

Sources & method
- English translation
- R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
- Spanish translation
- Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
- Ge’ez text
- Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
- Quiz
- Written by Benei Avraham for middle-school readers (ages 11–14). Each quiz starts with easier questions and gets harder. Every answer is in the chapter on this page. Answers and scores are kept only in this browser (local storage) and can be cleared with Start over.
