On Mount Sinai Hashem shows Moshe the history to come: Yisrael will forsake Him and be scattered among the nations, then turn back and be gathered, and He will dwell with them forever; Moshe prays for the people, and the angel of the presence is told to write the history from creation for him.
PrologueThis is the history of the division of the days of the law and of the testimony, of the events of the years, of their year-weeks, of their jubilees throughout all the years of the world, as Hashem spoke to Moshe (Moses) on Mount Sinai when he went up to receive the tables of the Torah and of the commandment, according to the voice of God as He said unto him, “Go up to the top of the Mount.”

For they will forget all My commandments, even all that I command them, and they will walk after the nations, and after their uncleanness, and after their shame, and will serve their gods, and these will prove unto them an offense and a tribulation and an affliction and a snare.
1:8Y comerán y se saciarán, y se volverán a dioses ajenos, a dioses que no pueden librarlos de ninguna de sus tribulaciones; y este testimonio será oído como testigo contra ellos. Porque olvidarán todos mis mandamientos, aun todo lo que yo les mando, y andarán en pos de las naciones, y en pos de su inmundicia y de su vergüenza, y servirán a sus dioses, y estos les serán por tropiezo, y por tribulación, y por aflicción, y por lazo.

Sources & method
- English translation
- R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
- Spanish translation
- Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
- Ge’ez text
- Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
- Quiz
- Written by Benei Avraham for middle-school readers (ages 11–14). Each quiz starts with easier questions and gets harder. Every answer is in the chapter on this page. Answers and scores are kept only in this browser (local storage) and can be cleared with Start over.
