Mark, Chapter 11
Yeshua rides into Yerushalayim on a colt while the crowds cry Hosanna. He curses a fruitless fig tree, drives the sellers and buyers out of the temple, and teaches His disciples about faith, prayer and forgiveness. The chief priests, scribes and elders question His authority, and He answers with a question about Yoḥanan’s immersion.
11:1And when they came nigh to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), unto Beit Pagei (Bethphage) and Beit Anyah (Bethany), at the mount of Olives, He sends forth two of His disciples,
11:2And says unto them, “Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as you be entered into it, you shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
11:3And if any man say unto you, ‘Why do you this?’ say you that the Master has need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.”
11:4And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
11:5And certain of them that stood there said unto them, “What do you, loosing the colt?”
καί τινες τῶν ἐκεῖ ἑστηκότων ἔλεγον αὐτοῖς, Τί ποιεῖτε λύοντες τὸν πῶλον;
11:6And they said unto them even as Yeshua (Jesus) had commanded: and they let them go.
11:7And they brought the colt to Yeshua, and cast their garments on him; and He sat upon him.
11:8And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.
11:9And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, “Hosanna; Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord:
11:10Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.”
11:11And Yeshua entered into Yerushalayim, and into the temple: and when He had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, He went out unto Beit Anyah with the Twelve.
11:12And on the morrow, when they were come from Beit Anyah, He was hungry:
11:13And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, He came, if haply He might find any thing thereon: and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
11:14And Yeshua answered and said unto it, “No man eat fruit of you hereafter for ever.” And His disciples heard it.
11:15And they come to Yerushalayim: and Yeshua went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
11:16And would not permit that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
11:17And He taught, saying unto them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer’? but you have made it a den of thieves.”
11:18And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy Him: for they feared Him, because all the people was astonished at His doctrine.
11:19And when even was come, He went out of the city.
11:20And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
11:21And Peter calling to remembrance says unto Him, “Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which You cursed is withered away.”
11:22And Yeshua answering says unto them, “Have faith in God.
11:23For truly I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, ‘Be you removed, and be you cast into the sea’; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says.
11:24Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.
11:25And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
11:26But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
11:27And they come again to Yerushalayim: and as He was walking in the temple, there come to Him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
11:28And say unto Him, “By what authority do You these things? and who gave You this authority to do these things?”
καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, Ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς; καὶ τίς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην ἔδωκεν ἵνα ταῦτα ποιῇς;
11:29And Yeshua answered and said unto them, “I will also ask of you one question, and answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
11:30The immersion of Yoḥanan (John), was it from heaven, or of men? answer Me.”
11:31And they reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we shall say, ‘From heaven’; he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
καὶ ἐλογίζοντο πρὸς ἑαυτούς, λέγοντες, Ἐὰν εἴπωμεν, Ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ, Διατί οὖν οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ;
11:32But if we shall say, ‘Of men’;” they feared the people: for all men counted Yoḥanan, that he was a prophet indeed.
11:33And they answered and said unto Yeshua, “We cannot tell.” And Yeshua answering says unto them, “Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Sources & method
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
