Luke, Chapter 10
Yeshua sends out seventy more disciples two by two, pronounces woe on the unrepentant cities, and rejoices when the seventy return. He answers a lawyer with the parable of the good Samaritan, and in the house of Marta He commends Miryam for sitting at His feet.
10:1After these things the Master appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place, whither He Himself would come.
10:2Therefore said He unto them, “The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth labourers into His harvest.
10:3Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
10:4Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and greet no man by the way.
10:5And into whatsoever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’
10:6And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
10:7And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
10:8And into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
10:9And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, ‘The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.’
10:10But into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
10:11‘Even the very dust of your city, which cleaves on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be you sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.’
10:12But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sedom (Sodom), than for that city.
10:13Woe unto you, Korazin (Chorazin)! woe unto you, Beit Tzaidah (Bethsaida)! for if the mighty works had been done in Tzor (Tyre) and Tzidon (Sidon), which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
10:14But it shall be more tolerable for Tzor and Tzidon at the judgment, than for you.
10:15And you, Kefar Naḥum (Capernaum), which are exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell.
10:16He that hears you hears Me; and he that despises you despises Me; and he that despises Me despises Him that sent Me.”
10:17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, “Master, even the demons are subject unto us through Your name.”
10:18And He said unto them, “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
10:19Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
10:20Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”
10:21In that hour Yeshua (Jesus) rejoiced in spirit, and said, “I thank You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in Your sight.
10:22All things are delivered to Me of My Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.”
10:23And He turned Him unto His disciples, and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see:
10:24For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.”
10:25And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
Καὶ ἰδού, νομικός τις ἀνέστη, ἐκπειράζων αὐτόν, καὶ λέγων, Διδάσκαλε, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;
10:26He said unto him, “What is written in the Torah? how read you?”
ὁ δὲ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτόν, Ἐν τῷ νόμῳ τί γέγραπται; πῶς ἀναγινώσκεις;
10:27And he answering said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself.”
10:28And He said unto him, “You have answered right: this do, and you shall live.”
10:29But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Yeshua, “And who is my neighbour?”
ὁ δὲ θέλων δικαιοῦν ἑαυτὸν εἶπε πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν, Καὶ τίς ἐστί μου πλησίον;
10:30And Yeshua answering said, “A certain man went down from Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) to Yeriḥo (Jericho), and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
10:31And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
10:32And likewise a Levi (Levite), when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
10:33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
10:34And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
10:35And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, ‘Take care of him; and whatsoever you spend more, when I come again, I will repay you.’
10:36Which now of these three, think you, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?”
τίς οὖν τούτων τῶν τριῶν δοκεῖ σοι πλησίον γεγονέναι τοῦ ἐμπεσόντος εἰς τοὺς λῃστάς;
10:37And he said, “He that showed mercy on him.” Then said Yeshua unto him, “Go, and do you likewise.”
10:38Now it came to pass, as they went, that He entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Marta (Martha) received Him into her house.
10:39And she had a sister called Miryam (Mary), which also sat at Yeshua’s feet, and heard His word.
10:40But Marta was cumbered about much serving, and came to Him, and said, “Master, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.”
10:41And Yeshua answered and said unto her, “Marta, Marta, you are careful and troubled about many things:
10:42But one thing is needful: and Miryam has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
