Haftarah
When the tabernacle is finished, “a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of Hashem filled the tabernacle” (Exodus 40:34). In the haftarah King Shlomo brings the ark into the house he built, and “the cloud filled the house of Hashem” (8:10). Chabad and other Ashkenazi communities read 1 Kings 7:51–8:21; Sephardic communities read 7:40–50, which follows below. This is also the haftarah when Vayakhel and Pekudei are read together.
7:51So was ended all the work that King Shlomo (Solomon) made for the house of Hashem. And Shlomo brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of Hashem.

8:1Then Shlomo assembled the elders of Yisrael, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Yisrael, unto King Shlomo in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of Hashem out of the city of David, which is Tziyon (Zion).

Maftir: Shabbat Shekalim
In some leap years Shabbat Pekudei is Shabbat Shekalim, the Shabbat on or before Rosh Chodesh Adar II. A second Torah scroll is taken out for this Maftir: the half-shekel that every man gave for the service of the tent of meeting.
30:11And Hashem spoke unto Moshe, saying,

Haftarah: Shabbat Shekalim
Read on Shabbat Shekalim instead of 1 Kings 7–8. Chabad and Sephardic communities begin at 2 Kings 11:17; other Ashkenazi communities begin at 12:1. King Yehoash has the holy money that the people bring collected to repair the house of Hashem (12:5–6).
11:17And Yehoyada (Jehoiada) made a covenant between Hashem and the king and the people, that they should be Hashem’s people; between the king also and the people.

11:18And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and broke it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly, and slew Matan (Mattan) the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of Hashem.

11:19And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of Hashem, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.

Maftir: Shabbat HaChodesh
Shabbat HaChodesh is the Shabbat on or before Rosh Chodesh Nisan, and it is often Shabbat Pekudei or Shabbat Vayakhel-Pekudei. A second Torah scroll is taken out for this Maftir: “This month shall be unto you the beginning of months” (12:2), and the laws of the Pesach offering. The tabernacle itself was set up on the first day of the first month (40:17).
12:1And Hashem spoke unto Moshe and Aharon in the land of Mitzrayim, saying,
Vayomer Adonai el-Mosheh ve'el-Aharon be'eretz Mitzrayim lemor.

Haftarah: Shabbat HaChodesh
Read on Shabbat HaChodesh instead of 1 Kings 7–8. On the first day of the first month the sanctuary is cleansed (45:18), and on the fourteenth day “you shall have the Pesach” (45:21). Communities begin and end this haftarah at different verses, as marked below. When Shabbat HaChodesh is Rosh Chodesh Nisan, many communities add the first and last verses of the Rosh Chodesh haftarah (Isaiah 66:1 and 66:23).
45:16“All the people of the land shall give this offering for the prince in Yisrael.
Kol ha'am ha'aretz yihyu el-haterumah hazot lanasi beYisra'el.

45:17And it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, and meal offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the new moons, and on the Shabbatot, in all the appointed feasts of the house of Yisrael; he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meal offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make atonement for the house of Yisrael.”

Haftarah: Shabbat Rosh Chodesh
On Rosh Chodesh Adar II the Shekalim haftarah is read, and on Rosh Chodesh Nisan the HaChodesh haftarah; this haftarah is given here for reference. After the last verse, verse 23 is read again, so that the haftarah ends with “from one new moon to another, and from one Shabbat to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me” (66:23).
66:1Thus says Hashem: The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool; where is the house that you build unto Me? And where is the place of My rest?

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), as published on Chabad.org. Every verse was checked character by character against Chabad’s Tanakh. Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has,” “begat” to “begot”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time (e.g., Moshe (Moses)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged. Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible.
- Transliteration
- Produced from the Hebrew with the open-source hebrew-transliteration library, adapted to Sephardic/Israeli pronunciation and reviewed by hand: ḥ for Chet and Chaf, tz for Tzadi, k for Kuf, and the Divine Name read “Adonai.” Names are capitalized.
- Aliyot & haftarot
- Portion divisions and haftarah readings follow the standard Jewish calendar outside Israel, cross-checked with Chabad.org and Hebcal. Ashkenazi and Sephardic haftarah customs are both shown.
- Hebrew font
- SBL Hebrew, by the Society of Biblical Literature.
