Text (469) 608-9944Numbers, Chapter 34
Hashem sets the borders of the land of Kena’an on the south, west, north and east; Moshe tells Yisrael it is for the nine tribes and the half tribe, since Reuven, Gad and half Menasheh have received theirs, and the princes who shall divide the land are named.
34:1And Hashem spoke unto Moshe (Moses), saying,
34:2“Command the children of Yisrael (Israel), and say unto them, ‘When you come into the land of Kena’an (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, the land of Kena’an according to its borders),
34:3then your south side shall be from the wilderness of Tzin (Zin) along by the border of Edom, and your south border shall be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward;
34:4and your border shall turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Tzin; and its going forth shall be from the south to Kadesh Barnea (Kadesh-barnea), and shall go on to Ḥatzar Addar (Hazar-addar), and pass on to Atzmon (Azmon);
34:5and the border shall turn around from Atzmon unto the river of Mitzrayim (Egypt), and its goings out shall be at the sea.
34:6And as for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea for a border; this shall be your west border.
34:7And this shall be your north border: from the Great Sea you shall mark out for yourselves mount Hor;
34:8from mount Hor you shall mark out your border unto the entrance of Ḥamat (Hamath); and the goings forth of the border shall be to Tzedad (Zedad);
34:9and the border shall go on to Zifron (Ziphron), and its goings out shall be at Ḥatzar Enan (Hazar-enan); this shall be your north border.

34:10And you shall mark out your east border from Ḥatzar Enan to Shefam (Shepham);
34:11and the border shall go down from Shefam to Rivlah (Riblah), on the east side of Ayin (Ain); and the border shall descend, and shall reach unto the side of the sea of Kinneret (Chinnereth) eastward;
34:12and the border shall go down to the Yarden (Jordan), and its goings out shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land with its borders round about.’”

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the Hebrew shows the written form, the reading follows in small type, and a note under the verse gives both. The English follows the reading. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Numbers they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 16, 17, 25, 26, 29 and 30; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
