Jubilees, Chapter 42

When famine comes, Yaakov sends ten of his sons to Mitzrayim for food; Yosef recognizes them, keeps Shimon and asks for Binyamin, and when hunger forces Yaakov to let Binyamin go with Yehudah, Yosef feasts with his brothers and plans a test for them.

The famine and Yosef’s storehouses

42:1And in the first year of the third week of the forty-fifth jubilee the famine began to come into the land, and the rain refused to be given to the earth, for none whatever fell.

42:2And the earth grew barren, but in the land of Mitzrayim (Egypt) there was food, for Yosef (Joseph) had gathered the seed of the land in the seven years of plenty and had preserved it.

42:4Now the famine was very sore in the land of Kena’an (Canaan), and Yaakov (Jacob) heard that there was food in Mitzrayim, and he sent his ten sons that they should procure food for him in Mitzrayim; but Binyamin (Benjamin) he did not send, and the ten sons of Yaakov arrived in Mitzrayim among those that went there.

The first journey to Mitzrayim

42:5And Yosef recognized them, but they did not recognize him, and he spoke unto them and questioned them, and he said unto them, “Are you not spies, and have you not come to explore the approaches of the land?” And he put them in custody.

Yaakov fears to send Binyamin

42:10And Yaakov said, “Me have you bereaved of my children! Yosef is not, and Shimon also is not, and you will take Binyamin away. On me has your wickedness come.”

42:10Y dijo Yaakov: «¡Me habéis privado de mis hijos!
