4:30And he lacked seventy years of one thousand years; for one thousand years are as one day in the testimony of the heavens, and therefore was it written concerning the tree of knowledge: “On the day that you eat of it you shall die.” For this reason he did not complete the years of this day; for he died during it.

4:31At the close of this jubilee Kayin was killed after him in the same year; for his house fell upon him and he died in the midst of his house, and he was killed by its stones; for with a stone he had killed Hevel, and by a stone was he killed in righteous judgment.

4:32For this reason it was ordained on the heavenly tablets: “With the instrument with which a man kills his neighbor with the same shall he be killed; after the manner that he wounded him, in like manner shall they deal with him.”

4:33And in the twenty-fifth jubilee Noaḥ took to himself a wife, and her name was Emzara, the daughter of Rake’el, the daughter of his father’s brother, in the first year in the fifth week: and in the third year thereof she bore him Shem, in the fifth year thereof she bore him Ḥam (Ham), and in the first year in the sixth week she bore him Yafet (Japheth).

Sources & method
- English translation
- R. H. Charles, The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913), public domain, lightly modernized by Benei Avraham in the same way as our Bible pages: “thee/thou” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, people and places carry their Hebrew names with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page, and “the Lord” (God) is written “Hashem.” Charles’s editorial dates are given in the notes. Digital text from the CrossWire Bible Society’s SWORD module (public domain).
- Spanish translation
- Translated by Benei Avraham from the English column, in the style of our Reina-Valera pages: Hashem for the Divine Name, Elohim for God, and Hebrew names. There is no public-domain Spanish translation of this book. Choose a translation with the Language drop-down; the choice is remembered on this device.
- Ge’ez text
- Ge’ez (classical Ethiopic) is the language of the Ethiopian Bible and the only language in which the whole book has survived; it was translated from Greek, which was translated from the lost Hebrew original. The text is August Dillmann’s edition (19th century, public domain) as published in the EOTCOpenSource Bible dataset. Verse numbers follow Charles; where Dillmann’s numbering joins two verses, the later verse says so.
- Quiz
- Written by Benei Avraham for middle-school readers (ages 11–14). Each quiz starts with easier questions and gets harder. Every answer is in the chapter on this page. Answers and scores are kept only in this browser (local storage) and can be cleared with Start over.
