2 Chronicles, Chapter 27

Yotam reigns sixteen years in Yerushalayim and does right in the sight of Hashem; he builds the high gate of the house of Hashem, the wall of Ofel, cities and towers, defeats the children of Ammon and receives silver, wheat and barley from them, and Achaz his son reigns after him.

27:1Yotam (Jotham) was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem). His mother’s name also was Yerushah (Jerushah), the daughter of Tzadok (Zadok).

27:2And he did that which was right in the sight of Hashem, according to all that his father Uzziyahu (Uzziah) did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of Hashem. And the people did yet corruptly.

27:3He built the high gate of the house of Hashem, and on the wall of Ofel (Ophel) he built much.

27:4Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Yehudah (Judah), and in the forests he built castles and towers.

27:5He fought also with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year a hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.

27:6So Yotam became mighty, because he prepared his ways before Hashem his God.

The end of Yotam

27:7Now the rest of the acts of Yotam, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Yehudah.

27:8He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Yerushalayim.

27:9And Yotam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Achaz (Ahaz) his son reigned in his stead.

Sources & method

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In 2 Chronicles they differ from most English Bibles in chapters 1, 2, 13 and 14; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
