Revelation, Chapter 2
Yeshua gives Yoḥanan letters for the congregations in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos and Thyatira. He knows their works and patience, rebukes Ephesus for leaving its first love, Pergamos for holding the doctrine of Bil’am, and Thyatira for permitting Izevel, and promises rewards to him that overcomes.
2:1“Unto the angel of the congregation of Ephesus write; ‘These things says He that holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2:2I know your works, and your labour, and your patience, and how you can not bear them which are evil: and you have tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars:
2:3And have borne, and have patience, and for My name’s sake have laboured, and have not fainted.
2:4Nevertheless I have somewhat against you, because you have left your first love.
2:5Remember therefore from whence you are fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto you quickly, and will remove your candlestick out of his place, except you repent.
2:6But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
2:7He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the congregations; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.’
2:8And unto the angel of the congregation in Smyrna write; ‘These things says the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
2:9I know your works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but you are rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
2:10Fear none of those things which you shall suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried; and you shall have tribulation ten days: be faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life.
2:11He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the congregations; He that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death.’
2:12And to the angel of the congregation in Pergamos write; ‘These things says He which has the sharp sword with two edges;
2:13I know your works, and where you dwell, even where Satan’s seat is: and you hold fast My name, and have not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwells.
2:14But I have a few things against you, because you have there them that hold the doctrine of Bil’am (Balaam), who taught Balak (Balac) to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
2:15So have you also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
2:16Repent; or else I will come unto you quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.
2:17He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the congregations; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives it.’
2:18And unto the angel of the congregation in Thyatira write; ‘These things says the Son of God, who has His eyes like unto a flame of fire, and His feet are like fine bronze;
2:19I know your works, and love, and service, and faith, and your patience, and your works; and the last to be more than the first.
2:20Notwithstanding I have a few things against you, because you permit that woman Izevel (Jezebel), which calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce My servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
2:21And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
2:22Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
2:23And I will kill her children with death; and all the congregations shall know that I am He which searches the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
2:24But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
2:25But that which you have already hold fast till I come.
2:26And he that overcomes, and keeps My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
2:27And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of My Father.
2:28And I will give him the morning star.
2:29He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the congregations.’

Sources & method
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
