2 Timothy, Chapter 3

Paul warns Timothy of the perilous times of the last days, when men will be lovers of themselves more than lovers of God and will resist the truth as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moshe. He reminds Timothy of his own persecutions and of the holy scriptures, all given by inspiration of God.

3:1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

3:2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3:3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

3:4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

3:5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

3:6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

3:7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

3:8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moshe (Moses), so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

3:9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

Paul’s example

3:10But you have fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

3:11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Master delivered me.

3:12Yea, and all that will live godly in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) shall suffer persecution.

3:13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

All scripture is given by God

3:14But continue you in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them;

3:15And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Messiah Yeshua.

3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

3:17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Sources & method

English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
