1 Thessalonians, Chapter 3
Unable to wait any longer, Paul stays at Athens and sends Timothy to strengthen the Thessalonians in their afflictions. Timothy returns with good news of their faith and love, and Paul gives thanks and prays that he may see them again and that the Master will make them abound in love and holiness.
3:1Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
3:2And sent Timothy (Timotheus), our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Messiah, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
3:3That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
3:4For truly, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and you know.
3:5For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
3:6But now when Timothy came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, and that you have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
3:7Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
זאחים יקרים, אמונתכם החזקה ניחמה אותנו בכל הצרות והסבל שעוברים עלינו כאן;
3:8For now we live, if you stand fast in the Master.
3:9For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
3:10Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας ὑπὲρ ἐκ περισσοῦ δεόμενοι εἰς τὸ ἰδεῖν ὑμῶν τὸ πρόσωπον, καὶ καταρτίσαι τὰ ὑστερήματα τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν;
3:11Now God Himself and our Father, and our Master Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, direct our way unto you.
3:12And the Master make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
3:13To the end He may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Master Yeshua the Messiah with all His saints.

Sources & method
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
