1 Corinthians, Chapter 16

Paul gives directions for the collection for the saints at Yerushalayim and tells of his plans to come through Macedonia, of Timothy’s coming and of Apollos. He urges the Corinthians to stand fast in the faith, commends the house of Stephanas, and closes with greetings in his own hand.

The collection for the saints

16:1Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the congregations of Galatia, even so do you.

16:2Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

16:3And when I come, whomsoever you shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Yerushalayim (Jerusalem).

16:4And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.

Paul’s plans

16:5Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia.

16:6And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that you may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go.

16:7For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit.

16:8But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.

16:9For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

16:10Now if Timothy (Timotheus) come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he works the work of the Lord, as I also do.

16:11Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.

16:12As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.

Final instructions

16:13Watch, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

16:14Let all your things be done with love.

16:15I beseech you, brethren, (you know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)

16:16That you submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helps with us, and labours.

16:17I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.

16:18For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge them that are such.

Greetings

16:19The congregations of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you much in the Master, with the congregation that is in their house.

16:20All the brethren greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.

16:21The greeting of me Paul with my own hand.

16:22If any man love not the Master Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, let him be Anathema Maranatha.

16:23The grace of our Master Yeshua the Messiah be with you.

16:24My love be with you all in Messiah Yeshua. Amen.

Sources & method

English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated, and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places with Hebrew names carry them, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yeshua (Jesus)); Greek and Roman names keep their English form. Christ is “Messiah”; Lord, used of Yeshua, is “Master”; where the Greek has Kyrios for God, the English keeps “the Lord.” “Church” is “congregation,” “baptize” is “immerse,” and the Holy Ghost is “the Holy Spirit.”
