Joshua, Chapter 12

A list of the kings Israel struck: Sichon king of Cheshbon and Og king of Bashan, whose land east of the Yarden Moshe gave to Re’uven, Gad and half Menashe, and the thirty-one kings west of the Yarden whose land Yehoshua gave to the tribes.

The kings east of the Yarden

12:1Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel struck, and possessed their land on the other side Yarden (Jordan) toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Chermon (Hermon), and all the plain on the east:

12:2Sichon (Sihon) king of the Emori (Amorites), who dwelt in Cheshbon (Heshbon), and ruled from Aro’er (Aroer), which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gil’ad (Gilead), even unto the river Yabok (Jabbok), which is the border of the children of Ammon;

12:3And from the plain to the sea of Kinrot (Chinneroth) on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the way to Beit HaYeshimot (Beth-jeshimoth); and from the south, under Ashdot HaPisgah (Ashdoth-pisgah):

12:4And the coast of Og king of Bashan, which was of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtarot (Ashtaroth) and at Edre’i (Edrei),

12:5And reigned in mount Chermon, and in Salchah (Salcah), and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshuri (Geshurites) and the Ma’achati (Maachathites), and half Gil’ad, the border of Sichon king of Cheshbon.

12:6Them did Moshe (Moses) the servant of Hashem and the children of Israel strike: and Moshe the servant of Hashem gave it for a possession unto the Re’uveni (Reubenites), and the Gadi (Gadites), and the half tribe of Menashe (Manasseh).

The kings west of the Yarden

12:7And these are the kings of the country which Yehoshua (Joshua) and the children of Israel struck on this side Yarden on the west, from Ba’al Gad (Baal-gad) in the valley of Levanon (Lebanon) even unto the mount Chalak (Halak), that goes up to Se’ir (Seir); which Yehoshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;

12:8In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the Chitti (Hittites), the Emori, and the Kena’ani (Canaanites), the Perizzi (Perizzites), the Chivi (Hivites), and the Yevusi (Jebusites):

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible; in Joshua they are the same as in most English Bibles.
