Isaiah, Chapter 62

For Tziyon’s sake there is no rest until her righteousness goes forth as brightness; she is given new names, Cheftzi-Vah and her land Be’ulah, watchmen are set on the walls of Yerushalayim, Hashem swears that strangers shall not eat her grain, and her people are called the redeemed of Hashem.

62:1For Tziyon’s (Zion’s) sake will I not hold my peace, and for Yerushalayim’s (Jerusalem’s) sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burns.

62:2And the Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory: and you shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of Hashem shall name.

62:3You shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of Hashem, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

A new name

62:4You shall no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall your land any more be termed Desolate: but you shall be called Cheftzi-Vah (Hephzibah), and your land Be’ulah (Beulah): for Hashem delights in you, and your land shall be married.

62:5For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons marry you: and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

Watchmen upon your walls

62:6I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Yerushalayim, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: you that make mention of Hashem, keep not silence,

62:7And give Him no rest, till He establish, and till He make Yerushalayim a praise in the earth.

62:8Hashem has sworn by His right hand, and by the arm of His strength, “Surely I will no more give your grain to be food for your enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink your wine, for the which you have laboured:

62:9But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise Hashem; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of My holiness.”

Prepare the way of the people

62:10Go through, go through the gates; prepare you the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highways; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.

62:11Behold, Hashem has proclaimed unto the end of the world, “Say you to the daughter of Tziyon, ‘Behold, your salvation comes; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.’”

62:12And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of Hashem: and you shall be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

Sources & method

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Isaiah they differ from most English Bibles in chapters 8–9 (9:1 there is 8:23 here) and 63–64 (64:1 there is the end of 63:19 here); a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
