Exodus, Chapter 35

Moshe gathers the children of Yisrael and gives them the command of Shabbat rest, then calls for an offering for the tabernacle and its work; men and women bring gold, cloth, skins, wood, stones and spices with willing hearts, and Moshe names Betzalel and Ohaliav to do and teach the work.

The Shabbat rest

35:1And Moshe (Moses) gathered all the congregation of the children of Yisrael (Israel) together, and said unto them, “These are the words which Hashem has commanded, that you should do them.

35:2Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you a holy day, a Shabbat of rest to Hashem: whoever does work therein shall be put to death.

35:3You shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the Shabbat day.”

The call for an offering

35:4And Moshe spoke unto all the congregation of the children of Yisrael, saying, “This is the thing which Hashem commanded, saying,

35:5‘Take from among you an offering unto Hashem: whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of Hashem; gold, and silver, and brass,

35:6And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,

35:10And every wise hearted among you shall come, and make all that Hashem has commanded;

The people bring willingly

35:20And all the congregation of the children of Yisrael departed from the presence of Moshe.

35:21And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought Hashem’s offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.

35:22And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and pendants, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto Hashem.

35:23And every man, with whom was found blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair, and red skins of rams, and badgers’ skins, brought them.

35:24Every one that did offer an offering of silver and brass brought Hashem’s offering: and every man, with whom was found acacia wood for any work of the service, brought it.

35:25And all the women that were wise hearted did spin with their hands, and brought that which they had spun, both of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine linen.

35:26And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun goats’ hair.

35:27And the rulers brought onyx stones, and stones to be set, for the ephod, and for the breastplate;

35:28And spice, and oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.

35:29The children of Yisrael brought a willing offering unto Hashem, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which Hashem had commanded to be made by the hand of Moshe.

Betzalel and Ohaliav

35:30And Moshe said unto the children of Yisrael, “See, Hashem has called by name Betzalel (Bezaleel) the son of Uri, the son of Ḥur (Hur), of the tribe of Yehudah (Judah);

35:31And he has filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;

35:32And to devise skillful works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

35:33And in the cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of wood, to make any manner of cunning work.

35:34And he has put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Ohaliav (Aholiab), the son of Aḥisamach (Ahisamach), of the tribe of Dan.

35:35Them has he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work.”

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Exodus they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 7, 8, 20, 21 and 22; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
