Exodus, Chapter 25

Hashem tells Moshe to take an offering from every willing heart so that a sanctuary may be made after the pattern shown him, and gives the measures for the ark of acacia wood overlaid with gold, the mercy seat with its two cherubim, the table for the showbread, and the golden candlestick.

The offering for the sanctuary

25:1And Hashem spoke unto Moshe (Moses), saying,

25:2“Speak unto the children of Yisrael (Israel), that they bring Me an offering; of every man that gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering.

25:3And this is the offering which you shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,

25:4And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,

25:5And rams’ skins dyed red, and badgers’ skins, and acacia wood,

25:6Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,

25:7Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.

25:8And let them make Me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

25:9According to all that I show you, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall you make it.

The ark and the mercy seat

25:10And they shall make an ark of acacia wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

25:11And you shall overlay it with pure gold, within and without shall you overlay it, and shall make upon it a crown of gold round about.

25:12And you shall cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.

25:13And you shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.

25:14And you shall put the poles into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

25:15The poles shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it.

25:16And you shall put into the ark the testimony which I shall give you.

25:17And you shall make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.

25:18And you shall make two cherubim of gold, of beaten work shall you make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.

25:19And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on the two ends thereof.

25:20And the cherubim shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be.

25:21And you shall put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you.

25:22And there I will meet with you, and I will commune with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give you in commandment unto the children of Yisrael.

The table of showbread

25:23You shall also make a table of acacia wood: two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

25:24And you shall overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.

25:25And you shall make unto it a border of a hand breadth round about, and you shall make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.

25:26And you shall make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the four corners that are on the four feet thereof.

25:27Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the poles to bear the table.

25:28And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be borne with them.

25:29And you shall make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover with: of pure gold shall you make them.

25:30And you shall set upon the table showbread before Me always.

The golden candlestick

25:31And you shall make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: its shaft, and its branches, its bowls, its knobs, and its flowers, shall be of the same.

25:32And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:

25:33Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knob and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knob and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.

25:34And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with their knobs and their flowers.

25:35And there shall be a knob under two branches of the same, and a knob under two branches of the same, and a knob under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick.

25:36Their knobs and their branches shall be of the same: all it shall be one beaten work of pure gold.

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Exodus they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 7, 8, 20, 21 and 22; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
