Text (469) 608-99442 Chronicles, Chapter 3
Shlomo begins to build the house of Hashem on Mount Moriyah, at the threshingfloor of Ornan, and the chapter gives its measures and porch, the gold and precious stones of the house, the most holy house with its two cherubim and the veil, and the two pillars Yachin and Boaz.
3:1Then Shlomo (Solomon) began to build the house of Hashem at Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) in mount Moriyah (Moriah), where Hashem appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Yevusi (Jebusite).
3:2And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
3:3Now these are the things wherein Shlomo was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was sixty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
3:4And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was a hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.
3:5And the greater house he ceiled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains.
3:6And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvayim (Parvaim).
3:7He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubim on the walls.
3:8And he made the most holy house, the length whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
3:9And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.
3:10And in the most holy house he made two cherubim of image work, and overlaid them with gold.
3:11And the wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.
3:12And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub.
3:13The wings of these cherubim spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.
3:14And he made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubim thereon.
3:15Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
3:16And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made a hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.
3:17And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Yachin (Jachin), and the name of that on the left Boaz.

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In 2 Chronicles they differ from most English Bibles in chapters 1, 2, 13 and 14; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
