Psalm 65

David’s psalm and song of praise to God in Tziyon, who hears prayer, purges transgressions, stills the seas, and waters the earth so that pastures and valleys are filled with flocks and grain.

Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible, where the heading is verse 1. In most English Bibles the heading has no number, so each verse here is one higher than there (verse 2 here is verse 1 there).

65:1To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of David.

65:2Praise waits for You, O God, in Tziyon (Zion): and unto You shall the vow be performed.

65:3O You that hear prayer, unto You shall all flesh come.

65:4Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, You shall purge them away.

65:5Blessed is the man whom You choose, and cause to approach unto You, that he may dwell in Your courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, even of Your holy temple.

65:6By terrible things in righteousness will You answer us, O God of our salvation; who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

65:7Which by His strength sets fast the mountains; being girded with power:

65:8Which stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

65:9They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at Your tokens: You make the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

65:10You visit the earth, and water it: You greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water: You prepare them grain, when You have so provided for it.

65:11You water the ridges thereof abundantly: You settle the furrows thereof: You make it soft with showers: You bless the springing thereof.

65:12You crown the year with Your goodness; and Your paths drop fatness.

65:13They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.

65:14The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain; they shout for joy, they also sing.

Sources & method

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. The Divine Name is printed as it appears in the codex.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Tziyon (Zion)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem,” the short form יָהּ is “Yah,” and הַלְלוּ־יָהּ is “Hallelujah”; “God” (Elohim) and “Lord” (Adonai) are unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In the Hebrew a psalm’s heading (“A Psalm of David…”) is part of the text and is counted as verse 1, or verses 1–2, so in psalms with a heading the verse numbers are often one or two higher than in English Bibles. Where that happens, a note under the summary says so.
