Text (469) 608-9944Jeremiah, Chapter 30
Hashem tells Yirmeyahu to write all His words in a book, for He will bring back the captivity of Israel and Yehudah; after the time of Ya’akov’s trouble He will break the yoke and raise up David their king, heal Tziyon’s incurable wound, rebuild the city, and His whirlwind will fall on the wicked.
30:1The word that came to Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) from Hashem, saying,
30:2“Thus speaks Hashem God of Israel, saying, ‘Write you all the words that I have spoken unto you in a book.
30:3For, lo, the days come, says Hashem, that I will bring again the captivity of My people Israel and Yehudah (Judah), says Hashem: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’”
30:4And these are the words that Hashem spoke concerning Israel and concerning Yehudah.
30:5For thus says Hashem, “We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
30:6Ask you now, and see whether a man does travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
30:7Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Ya’akov’s (Jacob’s) trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.
30:8For it shall come to pass in that day, says Hashem of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:
30:9But they shall serve Hashem their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
30:10Therefore fear you not, O My servant Ya’akov, says Hashem; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Ya’akov shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
30:11For I am with you, says Hashem, to save you: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered you, yet will I not make a full end of you: but I will correct you in measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.”
30:12For thus says Hashem, “Your bruise is incurable, and your wound is grievous.
30:13There is none to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: you have no healing medicines.
30:14All your lovers have forgotten you; they seek you not; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquity; because your sins were increased.
30:15Why cry you for your affliction? your sorrow is incurable for the multitude of your iniquity: because your sins were increased, I have done these things unto you.
30:16Therefore all they that devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil you shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon you will I give for a prey.
30:17For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Hashem; because they called you an Outcast, saying, ‘This is Tziyon (Zion), whom no man seeks after.’”
30:18Thus says Hashem, “Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Ya’akov’s tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.
30:19And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
30:20Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before Me, and I will punish all that oppress them.
30:21And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto Me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto Me? says Hashem.
30:22And you shall be My people, and I will be your God.”
30:23Behold, the whirlwind of Hashem goes forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.
30:24The fierce anger of Hashem shall not return, until He have done it, and until He have performed the intents of His heart: in the latter days you shall consider it.
Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Jeremiah they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 8 and 9; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
