Isaiah, Chapter 60

Tziyon is told to arise and shine, for the glory of Hashem has risen upon her; the Gentiles and their kings come to her light, bringing her sons from far with their silver and gold, the flocks of Kedar and the ships of Tarshish, strangers build her walls, and Hashem will be her everlasting light.

60:1Arise, shine; for your light is come, and the glory of Hashem is risen upon you.

60:2For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but Hashem shall arise upon you, and His glory shall be seen upon you.

60:3And the Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

Your sons shall come from far

60:4Lift up your eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to you: your sons shall come from far, and your daughters shall be nursed at your side.

60:5Then you shall see, and flow together, and your heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto you, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto you.

60:6The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midyan (Midian) and Efah (Ephah); all they from Sheva (Sheba) shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of Hashem.

60:7All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto you, the rams of Nevayot (Nebaioth) shall minister unto you: they shall come up with acceptance on My altar, and I will glorify the house of My glory.

60:8Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

60:9Surely the isles shall wait for Me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of Hashem your God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you.

Strangers shall build your walls

60:10And the sons of strangers shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister unto you: for in My wrath I struck you, but in My favour have I had mercy on you.

60:11Therefore your gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto you the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.

60:12For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

60:13The glory of Levanon (Lebanon) shall come unto you, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of My sanctuary; and I will make the place of My feet glorious.

60:14The sons also of them that afflicted you shall come bending unto you; and all they that despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you, The city of Hashem, The Tziyon (Zion) of the Holy One of Israel.

60:15Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through you, I will make you an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations.

60:16You shall also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shall suck the breast of kings: and you shall know that I Hashem am your Saviour and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Ya’akov (Jacob).

60:17For bronze I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood bronze, and for stones iron: I will also make your officers peace, and your exactors righteousness.

60:18Violence shall no more be heard in your land, wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.

Hashem your everlasting light

60:19The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto you: but Hashem shall be unto you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.

60:20Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: for Hashem shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.

60:21Your people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified.

60:22A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I Hashem will hasten it in his time.

Hebrew text
The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
English translation
The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
Verse numbers
Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Isaiah they differ from most English Bibles in chapters 8–9 (9:1 there is 8:23 here) and 63–64 (64:1 there is the end of 63:19 here); a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
