Text (469) 608-9944Ezekiel, Chapter 30
The day of Hashem is near for Mitzrayim and her helpers: the sword shall come upon Mitzrayim and Kush, Nevuchadretzar shall waste the land, and fire and judgment shall come on Nof, Patros, Tzo’an, No and the other cities; Hashem has broken the arm of Par’oh and strengthens the arms of the king of Bavel.
30:1The word of Hashem came again unto me, saying,
30:2“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Hashem; “Howl you, Woe worth the day!
30:3For the day is near, even the day of Hashem is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.
30:4And the sword shall come upon Mitzrayim (Egypt), and great pain shall be in Kush (Ethiopia), when the slain shall fall in Mitzrayim, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.
30:5Kush, and Put (Libya), and Lud (Lydia), and all the mingled people, and Kuv (Chub), and the men of the land that is in covenant, shall fall with them by the sword.
30:6Thus says Hashem; They also that uphold Mitzrayim shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of Seveneh (Syene) shall they fall in it by the sword, says the Lord Hashem.
30:7And they shall be desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted.
30:8And they shall know that I am Hashem, when I have set a fire in Mitzrayim, and when all her helpers shall be destroyed.
30:9In that day shall messengers go forth from Me in ships to make the careless Kush afraid, and great pain shall come upon them, as in the day of Mitzrayim: for, lo, it comes.
30:10Thus says the Lord Hashem; I will also make the multitude of Mitzrayim to cease by the hand of Nevuchadretzar (Nebuchadrezzar) king of Bavel (Babylon).
30:11He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: and they shall draw their swords against Mitzrayim, and fill the land with the slain.
30:12And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I Hashem have spoken it.”
30:13Thus says the Lord Hashem; “I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease out of Nof (Noph); and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Mitzrayim: and I will put a fear in the land of Mitzrayim.
30:14And I will make Patros (Pathros) desolate, and will set fire in Tzo’an (Zoan), and will execute judgments in No.
30:15And I will pour My fury upon Sin, the strength of Mitzrayim; and I will cut off the multitude of No.
30:16And I will set fire in Mitzrayim: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be rent asunder, and Nof shall have distresses daily.
30:17The young men of Aven and of Pi-Veset (Pi-beseth) shall fall by the sword: and these cities shall go into captivity.
30:18At Techafneches (Tehaphnehes) also the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Mitzrayim: and the pomp of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity.
30:19Thus will I execute judgments in Mitzrayim: and they shall know that I am Hashem.”’”
30:20And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of Hashem came unto me, saying,
30:21“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Par’oh (Pharaoh) king of Mitzrayim; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be healed, to put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword.
30:22Therefore thus says the Lord Hashem; ‘Behold, I am against Par’oh king of Mitzrayim, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
30:23And I will scatter Mitzrayim among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.
30:24And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Bavel, and put My sword in his hand: but I will break Par’oh’s arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.
30:25But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Bavel, and the arms of Par’oh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am Hashem, when I shall put My sword into the hand of the king of Bavel, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Mitzrayim.
30:26And I will scatter Mitzrayim among the nations, and disperse them among the countries; and they shall know that I am Hashem.’”
Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Ezekiel they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 20 and 21; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
