Text (469) 608-9944Ezekiel, Chapter 25
Hashem’s judgments on the neighbours who rejoiced over the fall of Yehudah: the Ammonim shall be given to the men of the east, Mo’av shall lose its cities, Edom shall feel the vengeance of Israel, and the Pelishtim and the Keretim shall be cut off.
25:1The word of Hashem came again unto me, saying,
25:2“Son of man, set your face against the Ammonim (Ammonites), and prophesy against them;
25:3And say unto the Ammonim, ‘Hear the word of the Lord Hashem; Thus says the Lord Hashem; “Because you said, ‘Aha,’ against My sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Yehudah (Judah), when they went into captivity;
25:4Behold, therefore I will deliver you to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in you, and make their dwellings in you: they shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.
25:5And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the Ammonim a couchingplace for flocks: and you shall know that I am Hashem.”
25:6For thus says the Lord Hashem; “Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your despite against the land of Israel;
25:7Behold, therefore I will stretch out My hand upon you, and will deliver you for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut you off from the people, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries: I will destroy you; and you shall know that I am Hashem.”’
25:8Thus says the Lord Hashem; ‘Because that Mo’av (Moab) and Se’ir (Seir) do say, “Behold, the house of Yehudah is like unto all the heathen;”
25:9Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Mo’av from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beit HaYeshimot (Beth-jeshimoth), Ba’al Me’on (Baal-meon), and Kiryatayim (Kiriathaim),
25:10Unto the men of the east with the Ammonim, and will give them in possession, that the Ammonim may not be remembered among the nations.
25:11And I will execute judgments upon Mo’av; and they shall know that I am Hashem.’
25:12Thus says the Lord Hashem; ‘Because that Edom has dealt against the house of Yehudah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;
25:13Therefore thus says the Lord Hashem; I will also stretch out My hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.
25:14And I will lay My vengeance upon Edom by the hand of My people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance, says the Lord Hashem.’
25:15Thus says the Lord Hashem; ‘Because the Pelishtim (Philistines) have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;
25:16Therefore thus says the Lord Hashem; Behold, I will stretch out My hand upon the Pelishtim, and I will cut off the Keretim (Cherethims), and destroy the remnant of the sea coast.
25:17And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am Hashem, when I shall lay My vengeance upon them.’”
Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In Ezekiel they differ from most English Bibles, or a verse is divided differently, in chapters 20 and 21; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
