Text (469) 608-99442 Chronicles, Chapter 5
When the work is finished, Shlomo brings in the things David dedicated and gathers Israel to bring the Ark of the covenant of Hashem up from Tziyon into the most holy place; as the Levi’im sing and the priests sound the trumpets, the cloud of Hashem’s glory fills the house.
5:1Thus all the work that Shlomo (Solomon) made for the house of Hashem was finished: and Shlomo brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
5:2Then Shlomo assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), to bring up the ark of the covenant of Hashem out of the city of David, which is Tziyon (Zion).
5:3Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month.
5:4And all the elders of Israel came; and the Levi’im (Levites) took up the ark.
5:5And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, these did the priests and the Levi’im bring up.
5:6Also king Shlomo, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
5:7And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Hashem unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim:
5:8For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves thereof above.
5:9And they drew out the staves of the ark, that the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the oracle; but they were not seen without. And there it is unto this day.
5:10There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moshe (Moses) put therein at Chorev (Horeb), when Hashem made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Mitzrayim (Egypt).
5:11And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course:
5:12Also the Levi’im which were the singers, all of them of Asaf (Asaph), of Heman, of Yedutun (Jeduthun), with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)
5:13It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking Hashem; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised Hashem, saying, “For He is good; for His mercy endures for ever”: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of Hashem;
5:14So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of Hashem had filled the house of God.

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (public domain) as published by the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (CC BY 4.0). Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type. A paragraph mark (ס or פ) inside a verse is shown in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the King James spelling in parentheses the first time on each page (e.g., Yehudah (Judah)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged, and “law” is “Torah” where the Hebrew is תּוֹרָה.
- Verse numbers
- Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible. In 2 Chronicles they differ from most English Bibles in chapters 1, 2, 13 and 14; a note under the summary on those pages explains how.
